Multiple Stimulation Levels

Remote hand-held transmitter must have the flexibility to match the stimulation level to your dogÂ’s temperament. Stimulation intensity level must also be appropriate to the size of your dog. Larger dogs need a high stimulation to follow and obey your commands while a small collar, your dog may not respond from the radio frequency if the stimulation is too weak. Most electronic training collar now clearly indicates what size of dog the training collar is intended for.

There are 2 forms of stimulation available on the market today. First is the continuous stimulation, this method of correction delivers an electronic stimulation to the dog as long as the button is pressed from the hand-held remote transmitter. The second form is the momentary stimulation or sometimes called “nick”. The dog will only receive a short electronic stimulation within seconds. Auto shutoff features are also available on some remote transmitter.

Range

Generally speaking, the more range the better. Effective range of an electronic collar can vary according to terrain, environmental and line of sight conditions. If you are training your dog in the field, it is recommended to have a long range training collar so the transmitter can still produce a reliable strong signal when if its needed. However, if you are only doing basic yard work obedience training, the 150 to 300 yard range is more than enough.

Handheld Transmitter Design

The transmitter should be small enough to carry in your pocket. Manufacturers make transmitters that small and lightweight. However, dog trainers have their own personal preferences but the main feature to be considered is the resistance. Some handheld transmitters are waterproof, water resistant, and rugged punishment tested.

Integrated Collar Design

Remote electronic dog collar should have intelligent engineering with internal antenna to avoid being caught up from the dogÂ’s body. And of course, waterproof collars are highly recommended if you intend to train your dog in our around the water.

A LOUISIANA man has come up with an unorthodox alternative to spaying and neutering dogs, MyFox National reported.

The Boxer dog is a German developed breed and is part of the Molosser group. It was derived from two or more Mastiff type dogs, the now extinct Bullenbeisser and the English bulldog. These ancestors of the Boxer had been used to hunt boar, bear and deer for centuries as well as for bull baiting when it became a sport. The boxer was stabilised and exhibited as a breed in its own right in Munich in 1895 and the first Boxer club was founded a year later.

The breed was introduced across Europe in the late 19th century and to America at the turn of the century. The American kennel club recognised the first boxer champion in 1915 but the breed was not register t o the British kennel club until 1933. This breed is a stocky, medium sized, short haired dog, with a smooth fawn or brindled coat, sometimes with white markings. It has a square muzzle and very strong jaw. It also shows a high level of intelligence and is quick to learn.

The name ‘Boxer’ is thought by many to have derived form the tendency the breed has to fight standing on its hind legs and boxing with its front paws, but this is unlikely as the breed was German so therefore not likely to be given such an anglicised name. There are many other theories about the origins of the name which linguistic scientists have debated. Perhaps one of the more likely explanations is that the Bullenbeisser breed was also known as the ‘Boxl’ and Boxer is simply a corruption of that word.

During World War I the Boxer was used by the military and did valuable work as a messenger dog, guard dog, pack carrier and attack dog. But it was not until after the Second World War that the Boxer became popular around the world. They were taken home by returning soldiers and soon became a favorite companion, guard dog and show dog. By 2002 the Boxer was the seventh most popular breed in the USA with around 35,000 new registrations a year.

While Boxers are typically fawn in colour with a white underbelly and feet, around a quarter of Boxers are born completely white. This variety has a higher risk of sunburn and skin cancers than coloured Boxers. The gene which is responsible for producing white Boxers is also linked to deafness and around 20% of this variety is deaf in both ears. In the past breeders often euthanized white Boxers at birth and today many are put in pet homes. White Boxers are also disqualified from conformation showing and prohibited from breeding by all national Boxer clubs.

Boxers are energetic and playful and good with families and children. They need to be trained early as they have strong personalities which can be harder to train when older. They have a slight reputation of being difficult to manage which is a result of poor obedience training at a young age. Their intelligence and working breed characteristics mean than they respond well to positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training. Boxers do have a long adolescence and are not fully mature until two to three years old which is why they need early training to keep their high energy from wearing out the owner. While the breed is not aggressive or vicious they can be over-protecting, territorial and dominating which can lead to a problem with destructive behavior especially in male dogs. They need socialisation, companionship and exercise to counteract these traits.

Boxers are prone to develop various illnesses including cancers, heart conditions and intestinal problems. Responsible breeders screen their breeding stock in an attempt to minimise the occurrence of these diseases in future generations. Proper exercise and conditioning is important for continued health but young dogs should not be over exercised as this may damage bones. Once fully grown Boxers are excellent running companions although they do not do well in high heat or humidity so care should be taken in these conditions.

The German Shepherd is considered as one of the most elegant and noble breed of dogs. With its high pointing ears and shiny coats, the strong and agile appearance of these dogs are only preceded by their intelligence. These dogs learn quickly and will never forget what was taught to them. Because they are hardworking and active, German Shepherds are also praised for their capability to do work. But just where did this breed come from? And how did this breed attain the reputation that it has now?

History

During the mid-1800s, a group of dog breeders called the Phylax Society was formed in order to foster a local breed of dogs for the German nation. This group conducted discussions and experiments by mixing different breeds, hoping to arrive with an offspring that had the advantages of its parents. Unfortunately, the group did not last long and in 1894, the group disbanded. Though the Phylax Society was not successful for the creation of the current German Shepherds, the studies it conducted was able to give way for its creation.

By the end of the 19th century, a German captain named Max von Stephanitz, who is considered as the father of the breed, formed another group that aimed for the creation of the best breed of sheepdogs, from which arrived the modern-day German shepherds.

Though there were high risks in having defective offsprings, inbreeding was necessary to permanently fix the qualities during the early years of the German Shepherds. In order to keep the breed alive, Von Stephanitz had to find other uses for the breed aside from regular sheep herding. He soon realized that the abilities of the breed can be very helpful for government activities. During the two world wars, the German Shepherd has gained much praise from their owners for being a very brave and reliable companion in the field. It is for these reasons that the breed has become one of the most popular breeds in the world.

Name change

After the second world war, the name of the breed was changed for certain reasons. From the German Shepherd it became the Alsatian wolf dog which was named after the German-French border Alsace-Lorraine. But in 1977, the original name of the breed was returned and is currently used in most countries.

Beagle Dog Training

Beagles were originally bred as hunting dogs; they are scent hounds and do very well at tracking hare, rabbit and game. They are excellent detection dogs and also very popular family pet due to its size, good temper and lack of health problems.

These dogs have been around for about 2000 years. Dogs resembling the Beagle can be traced back to the 5th century BC and they were also used by the Romans. The Talbot hound was bought to Britain by William the Conqueror. This white hound was crossed with the Greyhound giving rise to the Southern Hound, a direct ancestor of the Beagle. Form medieval times it was a generic term used for small hounds including some miniature versions which were owned by Edward II, Henry VII and Elizabeth I.

By the 1700s two hunting breeds had been developed, the Southern Hound and the North Country Beagle. The Southern Hound was tall and heavy set so lacked stamina and was slow but had excellent scenting ability, the North Country Beagle was smaller and lighter and therefore faster but had less developed scenting capabilities.

The modern day version of this dog was developed in Britain around the 1830s by Reverend Philip Honeywood. This original pack was breed solely for hunting and the dogs were smaller than they are today. It was left to Thomas Johnson to develop the breed and produce dogs that were attractive as well as good hunters. Several breeds were involved including the North Country Beagle, Southern Hound and Harrier. There was still much variation in the size of the dogs and it was not until 1890 that the Beagle Club was formed and the first standard was drawn up.

Beagles make excellent Family pets and companions; they are even tempered and good with children and other pets and will adapt to any environment and lifestyle. They do not make good guard dogs as they are easily won over by strangers. The breed is intelligent and eager to please but can be single-minded and determined so training must be consistent and start for an early age. They can lose interest in training and become bored and if they pick up a scent they will be easily distracted. Beagles are not demanding when it comes to exercise but they do have high levels of stamina and do not tire easily. They will happily rest though without exercising to exhaustion.

On average Beagles live to around 12 years old and they have very few inherent health problems. Weight gain can be issue with older or sedentary dogs as they will eat whatever is put in front of them. They can be prone to epilepsy but this can be controlled with medication. There are two unique conditions to the breed; Funny Puppy, which is where the puppy is slow to develop and has weak legs and a crooked back which makes it prone to a range of illnesses; and Chinese Beagle Syndrome where eyes are slanted and outer toes are not developed. The breed sometimes suffers from minor eye and ear infections which can usually be treated or corrected. Field dogs can pick up cut and sprains as well as picking up parasites such as mites, fleas and ticks.

These are the most common breed of dogs used in animal testing due to their size and good nature. In 2005, although Beagles were only used in 0.3% of total animal testing there were still 7406 dogs used. Most of these dogs are bred specifically for this purpose. They come in a range of colours but the most common is tricolour, white, black and brown. The two colour tan and white is also popular. Tricolour onesare normally born black and white with the brown developing later. Some change colour during there lives. The breed has a sleek shorthaired coat which is easy to groom.

Beagles have featured in a wide range of media over the years; they appeared in the writing of Shakespeare, John Dryden, Henry Fielding and Alexander Pope. They have famously appeared in comic strip and animated cartoons with the Peanuts character Snoopy being billed as' the world's most famous Beagle'.

The breed has appeared in many films as well as on TV; they had a central role in Cats and Dogs, as well as appearing in The Royal Tenenbaums, Star Trek: Enterprise, The Wonder Years and East Enders among others.

Barry Manilow's Beagle, Bagel, featured on the cover of some of his albums and former US president Lyndon Johnson famously picked up one of his by the ear during an official greeting on the White House lawn.

Boxer dogs always have time for play. If they are just allowed to play the entire time; they would. But then, for the owners; playing with their pets the whole time can become a difficult past time. Bullmastiff Origin

The Bullmastiff origin and history display a great example of a purpose-bred dog with a lineage that can be easily traced and understood. The Bullmastiff dog breed history originates from England and while its history is not as long and storied as other breeds, it is a close descendant of one of the oldest breed of dogs in England, the Mastiff. The Mastiff, a giant dog breed that descended from the Alaunt and the Molosser, is believed to have been introduced into ancient Britain more than 2000 years ago.

The Bullmastiff, however, was only introduced in about 1860 when the Mastiff was crossed with the Old English Bulldog. At this time, gamekeepers needed a dog to help protect their estates and flocks from game poachers, mostly poachers of deer from their estate. The Mastiff was apparently too slow and cumbersome for the job and the Bulldog was too small to be effective. The solution was a mix of about 60% Mastiff with 40% Bulldog, thus creating the Bullmastiff.

This new dog called the "Mastiff with a touch of bull" or more commonly Bullmastiff, was just what gamekeepers needed to watch their estates as his dark coat and quiet demeanor could surprise poachers, and then, rather than maul or kill the criminal, they would pin them to the ground without biting them. The Bullmastiff origin, then, arises from this practical application and was commonly called the "gamekeeper's night dog".

Bullmastiff Dog Breed History

The Bullmastiff dog breed was used for some time as the gamekeeper's guard, however, eventually the Bullmastiff was used in other capacities, such as a sentry or guard dog as well as work with the army and police. The crossbreeding between the Mastiff and the Bulldog and the magic 60/40 mix, continued, but eventually a purebred line was formed. In 1924 some conformity was established in the Bullmastiff dog breed and it was recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1924.

The American Kennel Club later would recognize the breed in 1933. The dog was famously used to guard the DeBeer diamond mines in South Africa as well as John D. Rockefeller's New York estate in addition to being used in emergencies such as the one in Mau-Mau Uprising in Kenya.

With the dog population increasing in the United States every year, more and more pet owners are forced to deal with the ever-more growing problem of aggressive dog behavior. Aggressive dog behavior sends hundreds of thousands of people to the emergency room every year because of dog bites. For most families they have no clue that their dog is aggressive until he or she bites a loved one for the first time. The worst part of this situation for most dog owners isn't that one of their family members may need a few stitches. The problem is that now their beloved dog, beloved family member almost, may now need to be put down because of their aggressive behavior.

The largest group of people attacked by aggressive dogs is children under the age of twelve. Often times children are more susceptible to dog bites because of their smaller size, and not fully understanding how the mind of a dog works. Dogs cannot comprehend reasoning or rational behavior, its just not in their nature. Canines have a basic understanding of the world, if they feel threatened or scared they respond often times with violent behavior. Now this reaction most of the time isn't your dogs fault, or your child's fault. Young children and dogs really don't know any better. So as the dog owner, and adult, it is your job to set boundaries and rules for all persons of canines living in your home.

Whether you agree or not, I believe over the past 15 or so years, many dogs owners are treating their pets as a true member of the family, instead of the family pet. While I agree you should treat your dog well with love and respect, you must understand that regardless of how much you love your dog, it is in essence still a dog. What encourages dogs to display territorial aggression?

Every dog has the natural instinct to defend his home and what he considers his territory. While this is perfectly acceptable, there are circumstances in which the aggressive behavior by the dog seems to go overboard.

There are circumstances in which a dog's aggressive behavior escalates and knowing why the dog is behaving in a certain aggressive way could help you know the action to take to improve on his behavior. Aggressive behavior may be experienced in the following circumstances:

1. Aggressive behavior by a dog gets compounded when a person drops off a package at your house and then leaves immediately thereafter. In such circumstances, your dog assumes that he is responsible for driving off this person and this increases his aggression.

2. Dogs experience increased territorial aggression when riding in cars and this makes them to bark continuously at everything that seems to be in motion outside the cars.
