What can i do, White Dog-Gray Collar?

I have an all White Siberian Husky and we have one of those chain collars on him, not one with spikes! In any event, no matter what we do, every time we bath him or even get him professionally, he in a day or two has a gray collar on his fur from the chain... We have tried a harness when he was a young pup, however he found a way to chew it off, we have also tried leather, and all sorts of regular collars, and he just chews them off, this one has worked the best, he just gets that gray ring around his neck on his fur.... Any suggestions?

You should never leave a choke chain (the chain collar) on a dog full-time. Those collars are for training only. He could catch the rings on something and choke himself -- then the grey ring around his neck would be the least of your worries.

The only way he could chew a collar off is if it's too loose. You should only be able to get 2-3 fingers (side by side, not stacked) under the dog's collar when he is wearing it; anything else is too loose.

I've had Siberians for 20 years, and none of them have chewed off a properly fitted collar. Get him a regular nylon or leather collar, fit it properly, and please don't leave a choke chain on him anymore.

As for the currently existing grey ring, find a good whitening shampoo -- talk to a groomer in your area for recommendations.

Fitting a martingale collar to your dog is especially important. If the collar is too loose, it will not tighten up as it is supposed to & your dog could escape from it's collar. To measure your dog for a proper fit you must measure the dogs neck right behind the ears. Since most martingale collars come with an adjustable feature, choose a collar that offers a size that comfortably fits between the measurements that you have just taken.

If you want to use a martingale collar for training your dog, it is best to buy a nylon one that has a chain loop. This will give you greater control over your dog & not be as harsh as a regular choke chain collar. If you want to 'show off' your dog, there are many collar makers that make beautiful collars from colourful ribbons & fabrics. The choices are endless & you will make yourself dizzy just trying to pick the right one.

An important note about martingale collars as since they do have a loop, your dog should never be left unattended while wearing one. It could snag on something & hurt your dog.

Keeping your dog safe is a concern for every pet owner. They have rings at either end that allow it to cinch up when the leash is pulled and then released after the dog has been corrected. Pinch collars have prongs on the inside of the collar and pressure is placed on the dog's neck when pulled. They are used in training when other types of training collars are not responded to and can often be used to train a dog not to pull on their leash.

The main thing to consider when choosing from the many dog collars available is what purpose it will serve. A standard collar will do for identification. If your dog will be outdoors, use a breakaway collar so they do not choke when getting stuck on something. Use a harness for smaller dogs that will be walked regularly. They make walking a lot easier and the dog cannot hurt themselves or get loose as easily. Halters serve the same purpose for larger dogs. Various collars exist for training besides the choke or pinch collars. Research the training method and results you want and then choose the appropriate training collar.

Boston terrier training should start with the idea that you are the leader of your Boston's pack. Like all dogs, Boston terriers are pack animals. If you are not acting like the pack leader, your Boston will step into the vacuum and take over that position. Training is essential when you get your puppy from a Boston terrier breeder. You may also need to do some training for an older dog you get by going through Boston terrier adoption.

One thing to be aware of with Bostons is that they are very smart and will get bored with too much repetition. Your Boston may do very well with a command at first and then play around instead of obeying. That's a sign that he's bored and you should practice more later.
