Best Dog Training Collar

In recent times, dog training videos have become increasingly helpful in showing dog owners how to hold their dogs by the collar without fear of harm to either their dog or themselves.

Quite a number of dog bites have come about as a result of 'collar-grabbing'. These collar-grab bites usually happen when the owner suddenly reaches for their dog's collar or collar regions, sometimes without any dog training intent on the dog owner's part.

What then happens is that the dog comes to associate being held by the collar with pain or discomfort.

This association can switch the dog into a defensive mode when an attempt is made to hold her by the collar. Some dogs don't bite but instead use defensive techniques such as playing "catch me".

It's best to begin your collar grab training while your dog is just a puppy. You must do all you can not to let your dog or puppy create a negative association in it's mind with collar grabbing.

Instead, seek to reassure your dog when reaching for it's collar with positive reinforcement.

1. Collar grab training should not be solely associated with the end of a play session. Do not fall into the pattern of only reaching for your pup's collar at the end of play time. This pattern will create an impression in your dog's mind that collar grabbing is bad and unwelcome because it always signals the end of play time.

What you should do instead is interrupt play time with collar grabbing every now and then and mix it up with some obedience training exercises like "sit" and "stand". Be sure to reward your dog generously at the end of each session.

This will create a positive connection in your dog's mind that says there is a reward associated with collar grab. Your frequent collar grabs during play time will now no longer signal end of play time but rather, time for refreshments or a quick timeout.

2. Collar grab training should not be associated with confinement. Animals by nature do not like to be confined. If you grab your puppy by the collar and lead or drag her to confinement, naturally she will come to associate the negative results of being confined to collar grab.

To create a positive atmosphere, associate confinement with something positive. An idea would be to throw some kibble or favorite chew toys into the confinement area. In no time at all, your pup will be happy to follow instructions to go to it's room or dog house.

3. Most of all, do not ever allow your dogs to associate collar grabbing as being a prelude to punishment and reprimand. Don't call your dog over only to scold her and grab her by the collar.

This will almost invariably result in your dog never wanting to come to you. The result is that your pup will grow into a dog that hates being collar grabbed and when she senses an attempt to grab her by the collar, she becomes evasive and offensive and might even resort to snarling and biting.

Following a good dog training video or program will help you prevent this from happening.

K9 Dog Training

Distractions are a problem for most people. Dog owners work with their dogs endlessly on their obedience but a few key factors are either skipped completely or they are not given the right amount of attention and this creates a dog that is easily distracted.

Let's dive right in...

Mistake #1: Your training lacks motivation. Your dog is simply not motivated by you. They find the distractions around them more interesting and in this case why will not listen.

Several things can cause this. However, it is almost always a case of the dog owner not understanding how to get their dogs motivation. This is your first task when training your dog. Find out what motivates them, what gets them really pumped up and interested in you.

When you have that, you can start to train your dog. Distractions will become pointless to the dog because you, in a sense, are their biggest distraction. They are highly focused on you and what you have.

Mistake #2: Pushing the dog. Okay so you have been training for a few days and your dog is sitting nicely in your house. You take them to the groomer and ask for the sit, you dog does not do anything. They just stand there. You ask again, no response. You ask again, no response, then you get frustrated.

Dogs are situational. They do not understand that when you ask for a sit in the house and when you ask for a sit at the groomer that they should sit. You have to train them do this. This applies to all locations.

You have taken the dog from the distraction free zone of your house into a zone that has dozens of distractions. Expecting them to just get it and understand it, is unfair and counter-productive.

When you take your dog to new locations, begin the training as if they have no idea what "sit" means.

If you dog is sitting on verbal command only at the house, once you introduce them to the new location and they are understanding that sit means sit at the new location, you can then start to ask for a sit at the new location and expect them to respond.

Mistake #3: Adding to many distractions to early. When adding distractions add them gradually. Your dog should be performing a behavior reliably before you move to the next level of distraction.

Imagine your are in your house. You put your dog in a down and then toss their favorite toy or treat in front of them. This the first time you have done this so the dog gets up. You correct them (which you shouldn't but that is another article) and repeat the exercise.

You dog remains in the down so you think, hey, I'll toss a pack of hot dogs down. While I'm being dramatic for the purpose of this article, this is what a lot of dog owners do without knowing they are doing it.

You are adding far to much distraction early and the dog is learning to fail instead of learning to succeed.

In the end, add distractions gradually. Understand that your dog has to generalize a behavior before they can do it in a new location, become a highly motivating distraction to your dog and be consistent. Your dog will behave in all locations at all times.

Here are five top hints on how to train your hound successfully:

1. To avoid your dog getting confused, and so that they can learn to recognize commands easily, only one person should be responsible for training the dog initially. For example, if your spouse uses different hand signals and words than you, your poor puppy will be trying to learn two sets of commands. This is not fair to your dog and will delay the learning process.

2. You should use positive reinforcements. If the dog does something good, you should reward this behavior so that he will know that what he did was right. If the dog cannot understand or follow your commands, never push him. Dogs are not fluent in English and do not understand your commands, and sometimes make mistakes. What you need understand is that your puppy won't easily understand your commands in just one session of dog training. It takes repetition to train a dog successfully.

Do not yell at your dog as they might develop fear which will get in the way his/her learning and willingness to be trained. You can use a combination of toys and treats in order to encourage your dogs, although don't overdue it. Some people also like to use clickers which will work very well on the right dog - but not all.

3. Successful dog training entails teaching one command at a time Try to teach Fido or Fiffi one command after the other. If he or she cannot absorb it, try to stay on that command only because adding additional commands will just confuse the dog. Begin with the fundamentals and build upon them as if building a house. A simple way to begin teaching "down" is to repeat the the word every time your puppy lays down, and follow with affection and praise.

4. For executing orders, you should keep your voice cheerful so that the puppy will happily follow your commands. Dogs will respond to a low and coaxing voice. If you scream loud, your hound may become upset and may shut down. Remember that your canine wants to please you and be with you. If your puppy is not learning a command take a break and come back to it later. Also training sessions should be short - 15 minutes or less.

5. Train your dog in several places. If you keep your dogs in a certain place like your home, he or she will not be able to adjust with the various environments and new people. Take your hound to the park or through the neighborhood. Take your puppy everywhere you can - let your dog get comfortable with meeting strangers (especially children). This will help your puppy associate with other dogs and people. In addition, dogs will associate certain behaviors with their commands. For example, many dogs will sit and stay at a group obedience class, but will suddenly lose their manners when a visitor rings the doorbell. Introducing your canine to an assortment of locations will guarantee good manners at all times.

Training your dog can be tough, but it will be worth it. Just remember to be patient, persistent and positive! In the end, you will be the one to benefit when your dog is trained. Imagine how proud you will be when you have the most obedient dog in the neighborhood! Your friends and relatives will be happy to visit since you have such a well mannered pooch. And if you want to continue training, you can take these 5 tips and use them in Agility or another dog sport.

Potty Training For Dogs

Would you like your dog to be obedient? Many of us struggle with dog training, so a dog doing what it is told is something of a dream. We know our dog's personality is important, but it doesn't make us stop wishing that our dog would do what we tell them to do.

But you can, by using advice to properly implement obedience training for dogs strategies on your own dog.

Obedience training for dogs tips

There are a wide selection of obedience training for dogs tips and hints that you should be following. Below are just a few ideas to help give you an idea of the sort of thing you should be doing to get your dog to finally listen to you.

· Keep obedience lessons brief. No matter how good a dog's stamina they are only capable of taking in new lessons for about 5 - 10 minutes at a time. Go over that and they will retain very little.

· Dogs react best to positive reinforcement and games. Ensure that the lessons are enjoyable - for both of you, and be sure to reward them for doing well.

· Ensure you give rewards right away. Dogs don't manage the concept of time well. If they are being praised for something they think it is for that exact moment - so, for example, if you are training your dog to sit you need to praise them as soon as their rear touches the floor.

· Never use negative reinforcement. If he or she has not learnt a skill before they can't be expected to know it, and if they are not understanding it is better to find another way of teaching them than it is to punish them.

These are of course rather generic tips on obedience training for dogs, but these are accurate. What specific tips you need depends very much on what it is that you are trying to teach your dog.

Best Dog Training Book

Almost all dog owners agree that a barking dog is a good protection and an outstanding burglar alarm, but you need the ability to control the barking. If you don't educate your dog to bark only at the appropriate times (fire alarms, noise outside the window and when approached by strangers), your neighbors are likely to resent your best friend, and you because you fail to control your dog.

Not all dog owners want their dogs to stop barking completely, but many want to be able to control their barking dog, and to know that when the dog is barking is because of something that really deserves the owner's attention. A barking dog is an annoying dog only when the owner can't control the barking or when the dog barks excessively for everything and at every little thing or object.

This article will not only show you how to stop your dog from barking, but also how to train your dog to bark on command. You can find, in almost all dog training books or in almost dog training videos how to stop your dog from barking. There are multiple dog training advices on this matter, but it is not only important to stop your dog from barking, but also to teach your dog to bark when you want him to. Some trainers recommend a dog shocking collar, but below I am going to share with you a very effective method, that only uses positive reinforcement, which is the best way to train your dog.

If you desire your dog to become security for you, teach him the "guard" command rather than "speak" command, a trespasser or somebody who's endangering you'll not know precisely how much your dog knows about "guard" and it's an excellent deterrent. This command doesn't mean that your dog will in reality attack somebody, but the barking can be an effective prevention for your safety both inside and outside your home.To instruct your dog to "guard or speak" tie his leash to a fence or some other immobile item. Stand approximately 3 feet aside and tease him with a toy or food, when he starts to bark, reward him.

Now put the food and toy aside and change the treat to verbal praise once he starts to bark. The command "guard or speak" should be given as soon as the dog barks, the timing is crucial here, observing his body language, you'll be able to tell when he's ready to bark.Once he becomes mindful of the "guard" command, give the "quiet" command when he's barking; give the reward as soon as he has stopped barking, this is really important. If the barking continues, give strong "no" command.

When he's successfully learned the command, move farther away and continues the training, he needs to know and react to these commands from whatever distance.Once this training is successful, untie him from the fence and continue to train him the commands "guard" and "quiet".

Trust me, you and your neighbors will appreciate this training when they've a peaceful night, and they'll learn that if your dog is barking, there's something wrong.

Dogs are highly social animals. In order to survive as a pack there needs to be some structure. When your dog comes into the household you need to develop a relationship were the dog understands that you are at the top of the pack.

The leader of the pack is often referred to as the Alpha. Becoming the Alpha is not done by a lot of force and intimidation. Instead we want to control the activities that important to your dog. In this article we will cover the four steps that you can follow to become Alpha.

Not being the Alpha can lead to problems. There are four steps to becoming Alpha--the four steps are:

1. Control the games you play with your dog.

2. Control the food and feeding times.

3. Control the sleeping areas.

4. Control the social contact between you and your dog.

Step #1: Control the game--control your dog. The great English dog trainer John Rogerson contends that if you want to control your dog you need to control the games. He is 100 percent correct.

Dogs quickly train their owners by learning how to steal things. Dogs love to steal a pair of socks and have their owners chase them all over the house. When you play with your dog always make sure that you are in charge. If you play tug, always make sure that you win the tug game.

Don't let your dog pull the toy away from you. If your dog likes to steal socks, keep a leash on your dog in the house. This way when your dog steals the socks and takes off, all you need to do is step on the leash and stop the game.

Step #2: Sit and down stays are great to do at feeding times. Feed your dog once or twice a day. Have your dog do a short sit-stay for meals. This way you communicate that you are in charge of the food and feeding times.

Step #3: Make sure your dog understands that you are in charge of sleeping areas. You can allow your dog on the couch and bed, but your dog has to understand that you are in control of the sleeping areas. If your dog is on the couch and you give the command "Off" your dog should immediately jump off the couch. If your dog doesn't your dog should lose the privilege of getting on the furniture.

Step #4: Control the social contact between you and your dog. A lot of dogs smack their owners with their paw or bark to get attention. If your dog likes to smack you with his paw, have your dog perform a quick command like "Sit" or "Down." This way you are in control of the social contact.

By following the four steps outlined in this article you can start to teach your dog in a non-verbal way that you are the alpha. It is best to do this without using physical force. When you get physical with your dog there is a good chance your dog will get physical with you.

Harsh training methods are the number one reason we have so much aggression. Learn how to train using positive training methods, communicate to your dog in a way that they understand and you'll develop a great bond with your dog.

Dog Training Courses

OK, you've just picked up a brand new puppy from the pet store, breeder, or shelter, and everyone in the family is super excited by the addition of the new fuzzy member. Now what do you do to ensure the smoothest successful transition together for everyone?

Unfortunately, all too frequently, this initial excitement turns into frustration because the initial essential training steps are not taken. I promise, however, if you adhere to my 2-simple steps below, you are 98.9% certain to be very happy together.

The first step is to potty and create train your dog. I have found that these two straightforward items go hand and hand. With today's busy schedules, these inexpensive tools provide security and boundary for your pet. Dog creates are well worth their investment, providing a calming sanctuary for your pet and relief for you. The dog training pads (also called pet pee pads) protect your floors and furniture, while discouraging scent marking by your dog. It's a very good idea to start using these pads quickly as to avoid urine damage and the setting of bad habits for your dog. Here are a few techniques to keep in mind with regards to potty training your new guest with dog training pads:

  • Always leave the pads in the same location so your dog will establish a routine. Most owners utilize the kitchen or bathroom.
  • Be aware when your dog is showing signs of restlessness...this is usually a sigh that they need to relieve themselves. Upon noticing such signs, take them to the training pads and encourage them to go potty. When they go, praise them. It is very important not to scold your dog...be patient with them.
  • It is also a good idea to take them to the training pad after meals and be for your crate them for the night. This also helps establish routine for them.
  • Expect that your new dog will have some accidents at first but by focusing you dog's positive actions they will eventually figure out what is expected of them.

Secondly, initiate some form of structured obedience training by week 10. Depending on what you are expecting from your dog, this training does not have to be difficult for either of you. In fact, this step can become more of a game that is enjoyed by everyone. In time, this exercise will become a positive foundation for you and your dog. Regardless where you chose to train your dog, at home or in a training school, there are a couple principles which you should follow:.

  • Keep your training interaction fun and rewarding for your dog. Your dog truly wants to please you, be patient and help them understand what you want them to do. While dogs are naturally somewhat intuitive, but they don't speak or understand our language, and they don't read minds. Yelling or corporal punishment is not necessary and will cause fear and timid behavior, nor does it foster obedience or love.
  • Consistency is very important in helping your dog learn. Don't confuse your dog with different commands for the same tasks. In reality, the more consistent your training, the faster they learn.

Admittedly, these steps are very simple... so obvious in fact that many new dog owners fail to implement them thoroughly. Most dogs and their new families only have a limited time together to adjust with each other. By following these initial dog training essentials, the initial excite of the new family member will surely turn into a long term loving and happy relationship for all.

It's widely believed that dogs originated over 17,000 years ago; recent DNA testing and closer fossil examination is suggesting that dogs originated as far as 150,000 years ago. However the dating in relation to the Bible seems a little far fetched. We know they were around in Bible days because it is mention in several passages.

Scientists and researchers have come up with several possible paths that the development of modern dogs has followed.

Dogs have lived and worked with humans in many different roles throughout the ages. Even today people are continually finding new ways in which dogs can enhance their lives, or perform useful services to people.

In order to understand dogs and their complex relationship to humans we need to look back to the origins of the species; and take a closer look at the habits of wolves.

Wolves are very social animals; they live in packs and derive not only assured survival but also enjoy relationships within the pack. We can clearly see evidence of wolvesÂ’ social structure systems if we look at our own dogs today.

In a healthy relationship the human is the alpha member of the pack. A less socialized dog is widely believed to think that he is the leader of your pack, instead of you - the owner.

Today it is widely believed that domestication is occurring at a much greater speed than was previously thought. It seems dogs are now born with highly prized traits.

Not only their temperaments but also the way they look is greatly changing. Scientists have had a tough time telling some skull and bone fragments apart. It's mainly differences in the skull and teeth that scientists can sue to determine if the specimens are wolf or dog remains.

At a farm in Siberia researchers have been experimenting with foxes and how quickly they can be tamed. They believe that this might lead to an understanding of how our own dogs have evolved.

Researchers around the world are also becoming interested in the cognitions of our dogs and how our dogs have become accepted into our human social structures. History cannot trace the exact routes of wolf to dog.

Wolves are now on endangered lists around the world. Many valiant efforts are being made to curb the steady decline in wolf numbers.

Is it all part of evolution?

Dogs have evolved slowly from wolves and found a home with humans. They've become an essential part of human life. If all wolves had formed such relationships with humans they too might be assured of life without extinction.

It is far easier to envision a world without wolves than it is to imagine a world without Boston Terriers, Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers, Pomeranians, Shih TzuÂ’s or Pugs.

Dog Training Obedience

Lack of attention, treats, walks or nothing in particular, these could be your answers when asked, why Sparkie won't stop barking. Have you ever tried to ask yourself what you have done to stop your dog barking problems? Have you given your dog his obedience lessons or even house training? These are essential parts of owning a pet; and defining you as his master. Adopting a dog is basically first and foremost a responsibility, to give him his fundamental needs from food and shelter, but also to provide proper training that a dog really looks forward to. Most dogs are followers, conditioned to follow a leader, giving them orders that may be related to work or leisure. When this need is not met, they tend to rebel or overpower to get their own way.

The benefits of obedience training outweigh the time and effort that you will invest on it and it will solve your dog barking problems.

  • Obedience training will create a bond between master and pet. As you train your dog, you will be familiar with his traits that are his own and may not share with his breed. Being observant of this will make you more aware on how he communicates his needs and differentiate it from his wants.
  • Lessons will give your dog confidence and boost of morale will help him cope with certain behavioral patterns that are innate, like defensive and territorial nature.
  • Learning from you will also give your dog his recognition of your personality; familiarize himself with your body language and other traits as his leader.
  • Obedience training also includes house breaking and prevents biting and other destructive behavioral dilemmas. House breaking is setting house rules like where he goes potty; things that he is not allowed to touch or play with like throw pillows and shoes; and if there are small children, his behavior towards them. Biting and other destructive behavior may result from anxiety, lack of exercise or outdoor activities and attention. These causes overlap those of dog barking problems as well.

Obedience training can be taxing for an owner, especially if there are time constraints and may try your patience. But as said earlier, these are outweighed by benefits of having a behaved, loving and loyal companion. These are traits that are also innate in most dogs that are important; and what you are really looking for in a pet, the love and loyalty of a dog.

Dog Training Tricks

Dog tricks are always fun to teach and do with your pet! However, some people will think that the only trick that they would be able to teach their dogs is to fetch. Here are some of the games that your dog will like being taught and want to learn so that you can play with them and impress your friends with this same action as well!

The first thing that you can help your dog learn is how to shake. Some people might have been able to do this quickly and have great success, but for some it will still impress your friends.

The second thing that you can teach your dog is fetch. Fetch is a great game that I know that my own dogs love being able to play. They love the ability to run after a frisbee or football and catch it in mid air. If they do catch it in mid air I would recommend giving them a treat as a reward.

The third great game that a dog can learn is how to wave at people. Now you might think that this will be easy, but it can actually be confusing with your dog when you first start teaching him or her how to do this trick. So you will want to make sure that you manage to teach this to your dog after you have managed to teach them how to shake to reduce the confusion that your dog can have when they are learning this.

While you might want to teach your dog all the tricks that you think he could possibly learn. You will want to start with these three basic games and tricks first to get your dog in the right mood. For even more great fun games that you can teach your dog you will want to visit dogbehaviorsolved.info The key thing though is to remember not to get upset at your dog to ensure that he doesn't sense this behavior as well.
