Boxer Dog Origin

This breed originates from Germany and finds its early ancestor to be a mastiff type dog, the large Molossian Hound. Later, this dog evolved into what was called the Bullenbeisser. The Bullenbeiszer's roots go back to Belgium and these ancestors were known as great hunting and working dogs.

Originally used to hunt wild boar and later used for working with cattle these dogs eventually diverged into different types, the smaller of which were called the Brabanter Bullenbeiszer. After mixing with a forerunner of the English Bulldog, the dog became what is known today as the Boxer breed around the mid to late 19th century. The Boxer dog origin and history becomes well documented at that point as dog breed clubs were formed in Germany in the 1860s.

Boxer Dog Breed History

What we know of as the Boxer today can be traced to the 1830s when a breeder crossbred the Brabanter Bullenbeiszer with the English Bulldog, but the Boxer dog breed history really begins in the 1860s as breeders began to establish and develop guidelines for the breed. In 1895 the Boxer Club was formally formed and further improvements were made to the standards of the Boxer dog breed.

Although initially the Boxer dog breed was generally white, by 1925 white was not accepted as a proper color for the breed. In fact, the color of choice now is fawn and brindle and any dog with more than a third of its coat white will be disqualified in AKC events.

This dog breed came to the United States around the beginning of the 1900s but did not become a popular dog breed until the 1940s. The breed was first registered by the American Kennel Club in 1904 and the first Boxer Champion was recognized in 1915. In 1949 a famous Boxer dog, Bang Away, won Best in Show at the Westminster and went on to win 121 more Best in Shows over the course of six years.

Bang Away became a famous dog, appearing on the front of magazine such as Life and Esquire. Due to the success of this one dog, the breed became very popular in the United States at the time and continues to be one of the 10 most popular breeds as determined by the American Kennel Club.

Dog Training Program

Generally, people think that well trained dogs are much Improved friend as judge against to untrained dogs. If you also think this, then you will be happy to know that skilled dogs behave better in family and friends. Once your dog knows that you are his boss, he would cheerily follow you and act upon your orders. much people like dog training program for their dogs so as to make them be trained obedience, but the finest part is that you can teach your dog yourself without the help out of any professional trainer. Nevertheless, if your dog is taking orders from a dog trainer and it is not able to make out correctly, then it is Totally your error. Just like owners, dogs also feel happy when their owner is happy with them.

While training your dog, initial vital thing that you should keep in mind is to know about your pet's manners. Getting familiar with the dog's behavior Assist it to raise well, both mentally and physically. You should take care of all the behavior of your dog and should work upon them little by little and in an simple manner. Expecting your pet to achieve the orders and following them immediately would be Incorrect, as every pet has its own power to learn things. besides, making your dog be trained by using modes is not a way to turn your pet into a disciplined family dog. If your dog constantly keeps on trying to get your attention, jumps on the friends, dribbles or even licks them, then your pet does not need any hard line method to be controlled because it just need to make you understand, ", Here I am, Love me always". If your dog is a puppy, do not try to exceed its puppy training stage, as dogs normally get bored and occasionally also get irritated with extended training sessions. Common training for five or ten minutes is plenty to make your dog be trained whatever you want. Not just this, when it performs well and obeys you immediately, you should admire him and give some prize. Dog biscuits can be a good alternative while praising dogs.

Persistence is the most excellent way to make your dog a fully trained pet. If you patiently wait for its response, it would absolutely respond at your order and will follow whatever you say. During the training sessions and after or before the sessions all the time admire your dog, pat on its back, give it reward treats on doing well and by no means use hard line methods while instructing. Training can be began with simple orders like sit, down, stay, come and more. Your dog will all the time go after you and your orders, if treated with patience and love. A dog adores its trainer when it feels that the boss also loves it the similar way. Dogs learn very quickly, if trained properly and you can also make your dog learn by following these simple guidelines. Dogs are the most faithful companions of humans, if treated properly and loved always, so always care for your pet dog.

David Gershon: Empowering a Climate Change Movement, Part 3: Instead of Cursing the Dark, Light a Candle
The purpose of a Cool Community campaign is to empower residents through local organizations across all sectors to reduce their carbon footprint by 25 percent through participation in the Low Carbon Diet program.

Being a dog owner can be one of the most rewarding things in life and can be even more rewarding if you choose the right dog breed. When you decide to bring a dog or puppy into the home you will soon realize what superb, loving and fantastic companions they will make for your family. However, if you choose the wrong breed of dog for your living situation, it can easily go the other way. Hopefully these quick tips will help you on your way to choosing the right dog for you.

Time and Exercise

Before even beginning your search for a dog, you need to first decide whether or not you have the time to devote to dog ownership. Dogs are extremely social animals and desire your companionship as much as, if not more than, you desire theirs. If your life is busy and hectic right now, dog ownership may not be for you.

For those of you that do live a busy life schedule, and are still determined to choose a dog, then going for a smaller dog breed will be much better than a larger dog breed. Smaller dog breeds, or less active dog breeds, will require less exercise to stay fit and healthy. One caveat you should be aware of is that not all small dog breeds are less active dogs, nor are all large dog breeds more active dogs.

Space and Comfort

The amount of living space you have and the amount of space you are prepared to allot for your dog is a major contributing factor in choosing the breed of dog for you. The most important factor to consider in regards to space is: How active is your dog going to be? If your living space is small, for instance, you may still choose a larger less active dog breed. In contrast, if you choose a highly active small dog breed, you will need to provide the space for them.

In addition to have the space for your dog to reach the activity levels he or she will require, you will also need to choose a dog breed that will live comfortably within your living arrangements. A couple of simple, yet often overlooked questions, one might ask themself when choosing a dog breed are: 'Do I intend on having my dog live outside, am I able to provide a dog house or other means of shelter?' and 'Do I have the extra living space to provide my new dog with his or her own area?'

Available Funds

Yep, money also is a contributing factor to choosing the right dog breed for you. Firstly, can you actually afford the dog itself? Some dog breeds are far more valuable, in a monetary sense, than others. A quick look through your local classifieds will easily inform you of the going rates of particular breeds in your area. Another place you can find information on the prices of dogs is a simple search on the Internet.

The more important things you need to take into consideration are whether you are going to be able to afford to buy dog food, pay for regular vet checkups, medicinal supplies, purchase necessary equipment such as leashes or kennels and grooming. Oh yeah, treats and toys too, dogs love treats and toys.

Every person's life is different and for every person the factors to consider for choosing a dog breed are different. In the end, the right dog breed for you to choose is the dog that best suits your life as it is now.

CLIFTON Show Society president Kate Flynn is gearing up for a top time at the 99th annual event this weekend.

All dogs can be potentially dangerous, however some dogs are more dangerous than others. Various types of breeds can be considerably stronger and larger than a person of average size. This is why most apartment properties with many families living close together use a list of restricted breeds to approve new tenants and their animals. From my experience, the following breeds are almost always on restricted breed lists of most apartment communities.

1. Pit Bulls

Weight: 55-65 lbs.

Origin: United States

A pit bull is a fearless dog that will take on any opponent. They will lock their jaws onto the prey until it's dead. Pit bulls have a reputation of mauling people to death and they are highly sought for dog fighting.

2. Rottweilers

Weight: 100-130 lbs.

Origin: Germany

Rottweilers are known to be very aggressive dogs because of their keen territorial instincts. That's why they make great guard dogs.

3. German Shepherds

Weight: 70-100 lbs.

Origin: Germany

These dogs are intelligent and very alert. They are highly used by local authorities such as the police K-9 unit. German shepherds are known to be fearless and confident dogs.

4. Huskies

Weight: 44-66 lbs.

Origin: Alaska

Very energetic and intelligent dogs. Not considered a good guard dog because of its personality characteristics and gentle temperament. A 2000 study of dog bites resulting in human fatalities in the U.S. found fifteen such fatalities (6% of the total) were caused by "husky-type" dogs between 1979 and 1997.

5. Alaskan Malamutes

Weight: 75-100 lbs.

Origin: Nordic

These dogs are very energetic and active. If they are bored, they can become destructive. That's why this dog needs lots of exercise to be happy.

6. Doberman Pinschers

Weight: 65-90 lbs.

Origin: Germany

Dobermans are great guard dogs for their alertness, intelligence and loyalty. They can be aggressive dogs when provoked. The typical pet Doberman attacks only if it believes that it, its property, or its family are in danger.

7. Chow Chow

Weight: 50-70 lbs.

Origin: China

These dogs can be aggressive if poorly bred. The Chow Chow may appear to be independent and aloof for much of the day but needs constant reinforcement.

8. Presa Canario

Weight: 80-115 lbs.

Origin: Canary Islands

Originally bred to guard and fight with cattle, an attack by this dog has been described as hopeless for the victim. They are a guardian breed with man-stopping ability, incredible power and a complete lack of fear.

9. Boxer

Weight: 50-70 lbs.

Origin: Germany

Unlike their name suggest, these dogs are not typically aggressive by nature. They are bright, energetic and playful breed. Boxers have been known to be "headstrong", which makes it a bit difficult to train them but with positive reinforcement techniques, Boxers often respond much better.

10. Dalmatian

Weight: 40-70 lbs.

Origin: Yugoslavia

Dalmatians are very protective dogs and can be aggressive towards humans. They are very active and need lots of exercise. They have very sensitive natures and an excellent memory. This bred is famed for their intelligence, independence, and survival instincts.

Dogs most often make wonderful pets, however in certain circumstances, any type of dog can be dangerous. Even friendly dogs, may cause harm in the wrong circumstance.

Not all apartment properties have breed restriction lists but this is not something that is commonly known. Your best bet is to contact an apartment locating company in your area to obtain a list these properties and their current availability.

Dog Training Certification

Golden Retrievers information is helpful if you want your dog to have the best health possible. It is also important to know that they are prone to hip dysplasia, a genetic disorder that affects large dog breeds.

Hip dysplasia is the poor formation of the hip joints which causes a wear and tear when the bones of the legs are moved. It could be caused by immature bone socket or femur. The two bones do not fit perfectly. HD starts with a mild limping and may progress to your dogs inability to walk.

It affects three out of ten Golden Retrievers which means the risks are high. Since it is genetic, the disease can be passed on to the litters. This is the reason why profit breeders are discouraged to breed dogs suffering hip dysplasia to prevent producing poor quality litters that will suffer the same disease later on in life.

Before you purchase a Golden Retriever puppy, it is essential to ask the breeder for a certification from PennHip or the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. A reputable breeder should have this to ensure that the parents of your puppy are cleared from HD.

The symptoms of HD take effect most likely when the dog is nine months of age. The pain can be unbearable for your dog which causes him to limp. As he matures and as the bones develop he may recover from the disease but in some cases, the dog has to go on with his life limping.

If your dog has it, this doesn't mean that he can no longer enjoy his life. But it is important to choose activities and an exercise regimen that is suited for dysplastic dogs. Jumping to catch a Frisbee or jogging exercises will not suit him and may worsen his condition, so choose the mild ones.

You can take your dysplastic dog for a walk at least 10 minutes thrice day and make sure that you do not overexert his legs.

It is also essential to feed your dog at the right amounts. Overweight and underweight conditions extremely affect hip dysplasia. Overweight doubles the pain that he feels because of the extra weight that he has to bear. Underweight causes malnutrition and poor development of the bones.

If your dogs HD is severe, he may require medication to alleviate the pain. For some dogs however, surgery is the only cure, but this does not guarantee lifelong results. Your support and patience is the best help that you can give your dog to overcome hip dysplasia.

Bullmastiff Origin

The Bullmastiff origin and history display a great example of a purpose-bred dog with a lineage that can be easily traced and understood. The Bullmastiff dog breed history originates from England and while its history is not as long and storied as other breeds, it is a close descendant of one of the oldest breed of dogs in England, the Mastiff. The Mastiff, a giant dog breed that descended from the Alaunt and the Molosser, is believed to have been introduced into ancient Britain more than 2000 years ago.

The Bullmastiff, however, was only introduced in about 1860 when the Mastiff was crossed with the Old English Bulldog. At this time, gamekeepers needed a dog to help protect their estates and flocks from game poachers, mostly poachers of deer from their estate. The Mastiff was apparently too slow and cumbersome for the job and the Bulldog was too small to be effective. The solution was a mix of about 60% Mastiff with 40% Bulldog, thus creating the Bullmastiff.

This new dog called the "Mastiff with a touch of bull" or more commonly Bullmastiff, was just what gamekeepers needed to watch their estates as his dark coat and quiet demeanor could surprise poachers, and then, rather than maul or kill the criminal, they would pin them to the ground without biting them. The Bullmastiff origin, then, arises from this practical application and was commonly called the "gamekeeper's night dog".

Bullmastiff Dog Breed History

The Bullmastiff dog breed was used for some time as the gamekeeper's guard, however, eventually the Bullmastiff was used in other capacities, such as a sentry or guard dog as well as work with the army and police. The crossbreeding between the Mastiff and the Bulldog and the magic 60/40 mix, continued, but eventually a purebred line was formed. In 1924 some conformity was established in the Bullmastiff dog breed and it was recognized by the English Kennel Club in 1924.

The American Kennel Club later would recognize the breed in 1933. The dog was famously used to guard the DeBeer diamond mines in South Africa as well as John D. Rockefeller's New York estate in addition to being used in emergencies such as the one in Mau-Mau Uprising in Kenya.

Dog breeds are certain types of dogs which have distinctive looks and

temperament. Dog breeds can reveal a lot about the size, appearance, and

personality of a canine. Doing research to find out which dog breed will suit

your personality and lifestyle is essential. Dog breeds are plentiful and you

can always find a reputable dog breeder, but it is important that you

understand the dog breed you are interested in before going to the dog

breeder.

Size should be a factor when deciding on which type of breed would be best

for you. Naturally, if you live in a small house or apartment, a smaller dog

would be better, where as a larger dog would be better suited with a large

yard or out in the country.

There are different dog breed groupings consisting of: The Sporting Dogs...

The Hound Dogs...The Working Dogs...The Terriers...The Toy Group...The Non-

Sporting Dogs.

The Sporting dogs were developed as bird dogs. These include the Pointers,

Retrievers, Setters, Spaniels and others.

The Hound dogs were developed to hunt using sight (sight hounds) or scent (

scent hounds). These include the Beagle, Coonhound, Bloodhound and others.

The Working dogs were developed for a variety of jobs, including guarding

property, guarding livestock, or pulling carts. These include the Alaskan

Malamute, Siberian Husky, Bernese Mountain Dogs and others.

The Terrier dogs were developed mainly to hunt vermin and rodents and to dig

them from their burrows or dens. These come in various sizes, from the small

Cairn Terrier to the large Airedale Terrier.

The Toy dogs are small companion breeds that include the Toy Poodles,

Chihuahua,Toy Spaniels, Miniature Pinscher and others. The Toy Group make up

for their small size with their big personalities. These are well suited for

older or disabled people, because they are easier to look after, as they eat

less and need less exercise. Usually, small dog breeds are just ten inches or

less tall at the shoulder. In most breeds, the male is slightly larger than

the female, but the difference is generally small. This is referred to as

breeding true.

The Non-Sporting dogs that do not fit into any of the other groups, are

usually larger than Toy dogs. These include the Miniature Poodles, Boston

Terrier, Bichon Frises and others.

For those who suffer from allergies, a Hypoallergenic dog is a breed that

might enable them to have a pet in their home. Some dog breeds have been

considered as hypoallergenic, such as the Yorkshire Terrier and the Afghan

Hound whose is the same pH as human hair, therefore, creating no threat. Some

other good breed choices for those who have allergies are the Soft-Coated

Wheaten Terrier...Bichon Frisé...Shih Tzu...Bolognese...Poodle...Barbet...

Dog Breeds Information
Living a dog’s life
Six canines of different breeds, from an aged Labrador to a Jack Russell terrier puppy, spend at day at Deena’s Doggie Daycare in “Bark! The Musical!,” which opens this week at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.
